Division of land

1773 and 1845

The 19th century was a time of innovation, population growth and increased production. Criticism of the system of market cooperatives, which had a paralysing effect on progress in agriculture, grew ever louder. Aamsveen was already divided up at an early stage – before 1773. The common land of the Esmark near Enschede is divided up among the owners in 1845. This also made it possible to sell land for new cultivation measures. Many plot boundaries from this period are still recognisable: by small ditches, peat walls, hedgerows or markings with stakes or stones.
